For many, the May bank holiday weekend is the signalling of the start of summer.

And if the weather is a sign of what's to come, we could be in for a bit of a mixed bag summer.

One downside to the long weekend is the change in supermarket hours, with many shops limiting and changing their hours, it can be a bit of a pain if you show up unaware to a shut store.

If you are heading out to do a spot of shopping on Monday, here is a list of the supermarkets open:

SuperValu stores operate under individual opening hours, with some stores opening from 7.30am to 10pm and others 8am to 10pm. You can find your local supermarket using their store locator here.

Individual Dunnes Stores operate on different timetables. It is best to check instore at your local branch to find out when the retailer will be opening on the May Bank Holiday.

Usual hours consist of 7am until 10pm Friday and Saturday, then on Sunday from 8am until 10pm and on Monday from 9am until 9pm.

Tesco's schedule usually remains unaffected by the changes brought on by the long weekend. Trading on Bank Holiday Monday usually amounts to the same hours as a typical weekday. However, it does vary by store so check your local branch to be sure.

Usual hours at Lidl are 8am to 10pm Monday through to Saturday and then from 9am until 9pm on Sunday. Lidl usually remains pretty consistent and opens from 9am-9pm on bank holiday weekends. However, this can vary depending on individual stores, so be sure to double check your nearest branch.

Aldi follows a similar pattern with opening hours of 9am-9pm on Bank Holiday weekends.
